280 gallon acrylic aquarium

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
nevr heard of anyone taking apart an acrylic tank. but i know you can polish/buff the scratches with this stuff called *Novus. if you look for it online they sell the 3, which takes out deeper scratches, then use the 2, and the 1 for final polish. works pretty good, esp. if you use a buffer.

if there are holes you want to plug up, or maybe a crack at the top of the tank, i know you can put a piece of acrylic over it. you would have to use the right acrylic bonder? sp. but then again if it's something more serious i'd look around locally for a plastic/acrylic shop and have them go at it.

I just bought a 150 gallon acrylic complete minus pump and also a 240 gallon acrylic tank stand minus pump for $600:headbang2:headbang2

first fill it up outside slowly while checking for any leaks. then maybe leave it outside for a few days full and check for leaks again. then if it is leaking look to see where and try to mark the spots. then if it dosent leak you are good as its acrylic and its bonded together, but it it does leak you are going to want to get some weld on 16 and weld on 4. get in there and see if it has silicone around the sides and if so take a razor and start to get it all out. then take a syringe and the weld on 4 and go around inside corners of the tank. go slowly and surely as this stuff is watery. you will also want a gas mask or a good fan pulling the air out on top. this watery stuff will get into any areas that may have very very tiny holes and hopefully get into the spots that where leaking. then wait a couple days take back out side and test fill again. if it holds for a couple days then you are good. i actually also went around the whole tank with the 16 after i did the 4 but thats only because i didnt go to rural king and buy a few syringes the first couple times i tried to seal so i never did it properly till the last couple times. my tank was also poorly made but now hopefully it holds together lol. so use a syringe so you dont have any airbubbles in your weldon. good luck and keep us updated.

gonna post any pics? This thing sounds pretty awesome.

yeah just give me a few days. its at a warehouse. won't fit in my 2nd floor apartment. it was too good to let it pass, but once i can buy a house my wall will be set. so needless to say i've got a few months so doing it right is very possible.
