I am going to buy a 29 gallon tank and I want a bottom dweller tank, a medium-sized solitary cichlid or a predator tank. What fish should I buy?

There is essentially no predators for a 29, I'm just going to tell you that now. By medium size cichlid do you mean one that is around 6 inches or so? If so I wouldn't do that, I wouldn't put a 6 inch fish in a 29 gallon. You can have a somewhat decent variety of bottom dwellers although they will be small.

A 29 gallon is simply not big enough for even medium sized fish so you'll have to look into smaller fish that stay within the 3-4 inch range or so.

Would you still like me to give you options for each potential stocking you have listed?

Crenicichla dwarf pikes come to mind. Cool little predators. I recommend breeding your own feeders if you want to feed live fish, as feeders from stores can often bring in parasites and disease. Can breed some platies in a 10 gallon pretty easily for that purpose.

how many could I keep?

Checkout Mogurnda Mogurnda (Northern Purple Spotted Gudgeon), they get to about 7" at most and are really cool :)

First off, you can get one dwarf pike, if you have two they'll likely kill eachother unless you manage to get a pair that won't kill eachother.
As for predators for a 29, you can get a figure 8 puffer or green spotted puffer, a Congo puffer (ambush), an African butterfly fish, or an African leaf fish
