I talked about this in another post, but figured I'd post this here since I'll be making my purchase tomorrow.

I have a 55 gallon with a AC 110 and it had a Whisper 60 as a 2nd filter until a few days ago. I setup my 29 gallon in my sons room and moved the Whisper 60 over to that. I want to get a 2nd filter for my tank and can't decide if I want to get another AC 110 or if I want to look at a cheaper canister setup. I'm trying to stay under $100 (or my wife will choke me, she may even choke me spending $100) so I wouldn't be able to buy some crazy canister, but figured I'd ask for opinions here.

Basically would a 2nd AC 110 or something like a Fluval 206, Marineland C-220 or something similar be a better choice? I do have plans to upgrade to a larger tank 90-125 gallon range within the next year.

If it was me I would do one of the ac110's and by the way they are on sale at dr foster for $58 right now. If you want a cheaper canister then get a aquatop off ebay or cfs500 or cfs700.

Yeah I seen how cheap they were there and really like the one I have now (2 monts old). Just wasn't sure if I'd get some big benefit from a canister over another AC110.

With a 55 I think the ac110's will be more than enough, I have 2 on my 75 myself and they run it fine. You can also use them on larger tanks (I have one on my 220) as a extra filter, the more the better. It's really a choice for you and the ac110's are easier to take care of on a small tank because they are easy to access on that size tank. If you really want to do it, get another ac110 now and get a canister later also :)

I think the only thing the canister offers over the AC110 is a greater surface area for mech, bio, etc. Sponge area and trays for more Bio media. Seems allot of folks have been speaking well of the Aquatops. I myself run a Marineland Canister and a Fluval C4 on my 55 works great.

Just ordered another AC 110 this morning...figures though it was in-stock last night and now it's on back order, but says they should be back in stock today lol.

I liked the water movement from canisters, keeps the waste suspended longer for the filters to get. When using HOB's I will add a power head.

you will like the new ac110

New AC110 should be here sometime this week...should I seed it with some of the biomax from my existing AC110 or just throw the new filter on the tank and let it build bacteria on it's own?
