2x4's vs. 4x4's

4X4's are POS' compared to 2 2x4's. a 2x4 with plywood sandwiched in between in a heck of a lot stronger, and they dont twist at all. My dad works with wood in his free time and won't touch a 4x4 if he doesnt have to. He says that the bottoms will stay stationary while the top will twist out with weight on it.

ÍMO all stands diy are overkill, but I'd use 2x4's to be safe.

I think most ppl use 2x4 instead of 4x4 is the cost. in my area you can buy almost 4 2x4 for the price of a single 4x4. treated wood should be used in areas of termites. nothing worse to find holes in your stand. I would rather use 4x4 as the main support legs and 2x4 for the rest.

i used 2by4 for my 7ft tank and had no probs at all
