It may be two early to tell but i am seeing some changes to these little guys and from what i have seen i think i have 2 males and a female. Id like to see what everyone else thinks.

Pic one i think is a sure shot male but then again you never know

Pic two the little guy is starting to get a greenish blue around the tail and fins which makes me think its a male. And also you got in a huge brawl with the other suspected male and i had to split the tank.

Pic three looks like a female and shes never been bothered by either two

:)

All pics look female. Males will have heavy spotting on body, face and into fins. Some females have some spotting but not like males. Females will Also hold their lateral line. Nice dovii tho.

It's not a sure shot yet but the first two are males. The third it's hard to say, although it does appear from the pics to be smaller and not showing any signs of color. Males grow at a much faster pace then females. Males will start to show signs of patterns and color around the mouth and gill plates around 3-4". The spotting does not come out strong until they are 5" or so and even then is not at is full pattern. If you are seeing color in the fins that is a good sign it's a male also. The head shape will also help give it away at a small size. Males start to show signs of a nuchal hump around the 3-4" mark. Females have a much more sleek looking head. I have always ended up with 3-4 males out of 5 fry. You will be able to tell much better in a month or so, keep an eye for the things listed above and there growth rate....males grow 2-4 times faster then females. IME

Hmm.. I agree with most of this. I have had thousands of dovii and I can sex majority of my males as small as 1.5-2". And there will spotting. And yes the spots will become more prominent at larger sizes. But females will also have color in face and some on fins. There may be a couple of males. But in those pics I don't see any spotting at all which indicates female to me. Maybe try posting more pics so we can get a better idea. What size are they now

And I'm not saying that Watson is wrong at all this is just my experience.

still to young to tell. most cichlids will look like females when young. that is because cichlids can change sex accordingly. some times a submissive male will turn into a female and vice versa.

:ROFL::screwy: Are You serious!? Wow. When submissive they can look alike but never in my life have I ever seen or heard of cichlids changing sex:ROFL:

Wow! I agree with FreshWater Predator. I have never heard of a cichlid changeing sex because it was not the dominant fish in the tank. Swervo513, which cichlids are your reffering to?
