So i have some bad news....i was up this morning before i went to work and i was watching the eggs and hatch and the fry try to wiggle there way out of the eggs. As they got free the mother was there just snatching them up and eating them. I have no clue why this was happening. Im sure they will continue to breed but why eat the fry?

The parents are always well fed.....they are only at 3 inches and ive had them for 3 weeks. The have eaten a couple roseys here and there but they are mostly on flakes, pellets and brine shrimp
It sounds like you want to give them a balanced diet. In their natural environment they will become a roaming, predator that swims completely visible in clear water and will eat almost exclusively live fishes. I think she is just trying to fill that gap in her desired diet.
Nice, they are fast growers that's for sure. If you have not found out by now the parents will eat the eggs and fry when they are new at it. That will stop over time and they will be great parents.
Yeah I have noticed. I have about a 100 growing out at the moment and there is a new batch the pair is raising on there own right now. They are defiAntly great parents.NWatson;4783164; said:
