30 Gallon Polypterus (Grow-Out) Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
that four line catfish is really cool looking. how big do they get and where did you get yours from?

thanks. they average about 10", but I've been told they can reach 12"+ in the wild. Right now mine is about 5"-6" if I had to guess. I picked him up from my local fish store. They carry them quite often and they're usually about 1.5"-2".
I've had this guy for about 7 months now.

nice lookin bichirs you have there, especially the endli. It should look even better the bigger it gets... Kepp us updated.

thanks! I think my Endlicheri has one the the best patterns that I have personally seen. They will be really happy in the new 225g! Then I'll be able to see my Endli at it's full potential.

Awesome tank and pics!

I'm planning a delhezi tank soon, after I move.

I will be browsing this thread ;)

Delhezi's are pretty awesome. I was planning on getting one a while ago, but someone got to him before me. My LFS only had one in stock and they haven't got any in since then. I should have a few decent species in my 225g when it's done though along with my current Endlicheri and Senegalus. All the tanks listed in my signature are all links to the threads so check out my other setups and keep an eye on my 225g build!

My first favorite fish was a senegalus when I was about 13 years of age. 17 years later and I still can't get enough.

The Polypterus species, I think, are one of the most interesting species available. They're prehistoric and some species can get up to 3 feet given enough tank space.
My goal over my lifetime is to eventually have a tank with atleast one of each species of Polypterus. If done right and taken care of well, these fish can out-live their owners!

A few more pics of the Royal Pleco and Four Line Catfish for you guys. Still trying to get the sex on the Bichirs. I think the Endlicheri is a female and the Senegalus a male, but I could be wrong

No one wants to help sex my Polys?

Well here's a new guy I got for the 225g. Not sure if I want to get more than one though. Some people have told me that it's best to keep atleast 3, but I'll see what you guys think.
