Nothing wrong with your tank, I have a 20 long growing out Ornate, Delhezi, indo dat and an Irwini catfish. as long as you overfilter, regular waterchange then its fine. they will be going into a 225 also.

keep up the good work and wouldn't mind some more pics!

Very nice, please post pictures of the new tank when it is finished.

Will do. There's a link to my 225g build thread in my signature. If that doesn't work, here is the direct link:

I have a Marineland Penguin 350pgh HOB filter with activated carbon and a Biowheel for biological filtration. It keeps the water in check pretty good. I also do small weekly water changes and a big water change once a month. I plan on snagging an Ornate and a Delhezi soon. I have been contemplating getting a Datnoid or two, but so far I already have 2 Polypterus, 1 Catfish, 2 Plecos, and 1 Peacock Bass going in the 225g so I don't wanna go overboard on the fish purchases just yet. I need to see what kind of room I will have once it's done and ready for fish. What's the average adult size of a Datnoid?

They can get anywhere between 12"-20" on average but it depends on species. some get larger than others but they are very slow growers. Mine is quite hard to feed as he refuses to eat anything but live fish. he also has stopped accepting bloodworms for now. I hear they go on little hunger strikes. Either way he has a fat belly so he must have been eating some of the food that goes in for my Bichirs.

They are really cool to watch hunt their prey though. I will get him to pellet feed sooner or later. Some of them will accept pellets straight away though. My ornate bichir comes to the surface to feed on the hikari gold that I was trying to get the datnoid interested in. So I pellet trained the Ornate faster than the dat.
Will be interesting to see how your tank takes shape as we both have the same gallonage but different stocks

I have
Long fin oscar
Flagtail
pink tail chalceus
Chocolate cichlid
Clown knife
in the large tank, so far everyones under or around 5". I hope you will keep us updated with the progress! If you want to chat about growing out or anything shoot me a PM would be interested in knowing more about your set up.

I trained both my Bichirs to accept pellets. They both feed on Cichlid Gold as well. I fed my Electric Blue the gold when he was in a grow-out and my Endli became very fond of the pellets. Right now I am currently trying to pellet train my Peacock Bass. I just picked him up 3 days ago so I have a while probably until he readily accepts pellets if he ever does. I have had friends with Peacocks that never ate a single pellet and I've also had friends with Peacocks that ate ONLY pellets so I guess it's kinda luck of the draw.

I'll have updates on the 225g and this tank a lot for the next month most likely so keep and eye out! And thanks for offering your help! I have fairly extensive knowledge, but there's always something to learn so if I need help I will definitely take that into consideration!

Well even though they aren't in this tank, I did get two new Polypterus' today and I might even pick up another one or two tomorrow as well if there are more species available. I just thought this was an appropriate post because this is my Polypterus Grow-Out thread. These guys are simply too little to go in the 30g with the two current Polys so they will be housed in the 29g until they grow to adequate size. I will (hopefully) have the 225g done soon so I can move the bigger two into there and use the 30g for the new smaller two. That way they will be in the tank alone so they can grow-out quick and easy.

-Ornate Bichir (Polypterus Ornatipinnis)
-Albino Nigerian Senegalus (Polypterus Senegalus var. Albino)

New Polypterus! I picked this guy up today. He was labeled as a Polypterus Palmas, but I personally think it is a Polypterus Lapradei. If anyone could verify it, that would be awesome.
