just a quick question about corn snakes, i read that you should put them in a different enclosure when feeding and that you shouldnt handle them for 2 days after feeding them. so are you supposed to leave them in the other enclosure for those 2 or 3 days and then move them back to their regular cage?

also, should i leave the heatlamp on 24/7 or turn it off for a couple hours every day?

On cornsnakes you can but dont need to use heat lamp, heat pad uses much less energy;) In summer you shouldnt need to use it at all most of the time. As for winter it should be on permanently (of corse if your not hibernating your snake, wich is recomended for at least a copple of years)

i saw a vid that said heat pads shouldnt be used alone because they often dont provide enough heat. is this true?

could you answer the first question too

As far as feeding just get a plastic bin or something like that to feed in. The main reason for using the other container is so they don't get used to having food come into their enclosure. If this were the case, you'd end up sticking your hand in to clean the cage, and they'd think they were being fed and snag one of your fingers. After they've swallowed their prey, it's fine to move the snake back into its normal cage. By not handling the snake for a couple days, they mean no extensive handling. Handling it to put it away is fine.

As far as the heat pads, they're fine to use on their own without a heat lamp. For snakes belly heat for digestion is more important anyway.

thanks man, i have to say thanks to everybody who's been helping me out. I never knew we had such knowledgeable reptile experts on mfk :D thanks again guys

You can also use a heat cable;) This snakes dont really need a woule lot of heat! Remenbar that they are temperate climate snakes. A good friend of mine that had a pet shop had in it a large tank with this absolutley gorgeous albino california kingsnake and most of the year he barely had to heat her (he used a heat cable) and sometimes he had to turn it of because the snake didnt like to much heat and became restless and tried to escape (she was VERY healty and eated really well). Unfornatly I dont know what became of her because the store closed and I loose contact with him ever since. Cornsnakes are very similar so I assume the same should apply. But wait for more experienced snake folk both for that and the other question

I got a nice digital one for like $12. You should be able to get one a little cheaper at an expo, I would think.
