Before you make your decision, bear in mind that the substrate will further reduce the viewing area . I have a 30" tall, bare-bottom acrylic tank and for me, the only issues are siphoning debris off the bottom and occassionally removing biofilm (scum) from inside the tank. For siphoning, it's easy to build a device from a four-foot section of PVC pipe. I bought a a microfiber pad attached to a telescoping handle from Target which I use to clean the tank interior. I have large Dats in my tank and they seem equally comfortable hanging out near the bottom, so oxygenation does not appear to be an issue. I also have a 30" tall 150g glass tank and I just have never found them to be particulalry challenging to maintain.
