300 Gallon Purchase - Manufacturer

On Durso's site, he states that he uses 1.25" (sched 20) PVC pipe. He uses reducers to fit into the smaller bulkheads. I remember reading that he felt 1" pipe drained too slow, and 1.5" drained too fast- or something like that.

The 1.25" size should apply to the above design, as well- since the principles are the same between the two. The only true difference being the inlet design. If we go with the 1.25" pipe size, we can surmise that the cap is likely 1.75-2".

Here's a link with very good instructions. Again, a different design than either of the above, but the principle remains the same. http://www.rl180reef.com/pages/standpipe/standpipe-ken_stockman.htm

I currently have the "prototype stockman" standpipe (the one I just linked) in the overflows of my 100g. They drain very well and are more quiet than the Dursos they replaced.

Here are some more Stockman standpipe plans (these are for those of you with a milling machine or dremels & real steady hands):

I will have to see what size the pipes are. I had always thought they were 1.5" since that's what size bulkhead it fits. I am hoping these can flow what I need them too. I want about 2000gph split between 2 of them. Also on the durso's and stockmans do you need to have the end of the drain pipe in the sump under the water level? That's how I have these....we got them for my bro n laws tank but his sump wont allow the end of the drain to go uner the water. I am building my sump so I will make it happen on mine....

Actually in those links is the same thing that I have. Look on the bottom it gives some sizes of the 1.5" version I have. Is that what sizes you want or you want me to measure something else....

I got it now...thanks..

The 240 is looking a little small to me. I'm kind of leaning towards buying a 350 gallon acrylic from tenecor. The only problem is that is a pretty huge investment. They have sent me quotes on the 240 and 350 and tenecor is pretty competitive.
