300 gallon setup/sump build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Great read jaws!! :D Ya really got me wanting to do a sump!!

Im tellin ya its not hard. Im probably the least handy person on this forum. Makes life soo much easier

Keep an eye on nitrite as well... Don't want that to creep.
Oh hell no... no mor rookie mistakes bro. Thanks for looking out but luckily its been 0.

Ive never seen nitrites when doesing with safestart. Hopefully a few more days

Update on the discussion of 1 gate vs seperate gates.

I havent touched the single gate valve in over a month maybe 2. Took time to learn how the system reacts to changes like fluctuations in the sumps water level. After a wc the e drains will take on some water. Overnite what ever air thats trapped in the siphons is purged and all is normal in the morning.

J jaws7777 can you make any adjustments to the pump flow without tinkering with the gate valves? I was hoping to be able to set my ball valves to work with a range of flow and then forget about them, but am not sure if it is possible.

To a degree yes. Regardless of the type of valve.

If you increase the pump gph and still maintain water level below e drain then no need to adjust the siphon valves. But if the water level rises to a point where the edrains are taking on water then the siphons should be adjusted.

Why would you need to conatantly change the pumps gph ?

I probably won't need to change the flow often once I get it set, and am probably just getting myself in the weeds worrying about it. Just wanted to make any improvements now before the tank is in service.

i say easiest would be decide on what you want the pumps set at (make sure e drains can handle desired fliw)and adjust the valves accordingly. Will be some tinkering the 1st few weeks but has been set and forget since

Sounds like a plan, thanks.

I haven't had to touch my two ball valve setup either. I sometimes get a little tiny bit of air starting to suck into the overflows before my weekly water change, but then I just turn the pumps up a tad and it goes away. I really credit the DCP pumps because they allow the tiniest little adjustments in case evaporation lets the water get a tad low.

Let's bump this...

Ok so the pond boxes are full of filter floss? I must of missed it where'd you grab that clear valve at?

Have you made any tweaks?
