300ish Gallon plywood - First attempt

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I found something to keep me busy while I test my sump box.

I mentioned it earlier but I picked up a 55 gallon tank for free.

There were a few catches. :irked:

When I got there I discovered it still had about 5 inches of water in it. The kid that had owned it apparently moved out about 5-6 months before.

As I drained it down I discovered the remains of about 6 fish. A few Kuhli Loaches and a gromie of some sort.

I got it home and pulled the gravel out. It was a bright mixture which would probably look good under black light.

The tank itself is in decent shape. But has massive hard water deposits.

Tank was made in 94.

The plastic top brace is broken. But I'm thinking of turning this into a rimless show piece in my living room.

can you tell me how to get hard water spots out ive stryed scrubbing and bleach.....

Can't beat a razor blade. Just keep it at a steep angle and be careful near the silicone.

If its really really bad then I use Windex with ammonia or CLR spray. But the tank needs to be THOROUGHLY washed afterward.

use vinegar... its less harmful on urself and easier to wash out..

hey another plus was that it was made by dawn.. i hear she makes good tanks :D

What ya gonna put in there?

Feeder goldfish are bad.

I have plans for the 55. But that will be another thread.

Vinegar works on hard water. But needs to soak for a while. I use it to clean my coffee pot once in a while.
