Yea i think imma get high grade crs and selectivly breed them

Anyone got info on selective breeding?

Selective breeding is what it sounds like, once your shrimp breed separate the ones that have a favourable feature (ie different colouring, in the case of the crystal reds, more solid and white colouring).

The only problem you might encounter is what you'll do with the shrimp you don't want to breed.

Don't just go and buy higher quality crystal reds if you've never had them before. It's a waste of money as most of them will die. If I were you, I'd try to buy a A and S grade mix and selectively breed them until they're all S grade (remember to introduce new crystal reds as the massive amounts of inbreeding will make the offspring genetically weaker) and then buy a few SS grade online and selectively breed until they're all SS grade.

Selectively breeding may be more practical in something smaller like a 10G because of it's size. It will be difficult to try and pick out certain shrimp in a 30G (with about 100+ other shrimp in there).

What experience do you have with shrimp?

Ive kept cherries before.

What if I get a 10gal on top of my30gal and mix what I wantin the 10gal. Like pik the goods outta the 30gal and put them in the 10gal. Then introduce the new babies then mix a ss with a s then introduce those?

Again, that may be a bit difficult on your part but it's completely your choice. If I were to selecetively breed then I would just use several 10G tanks.

If you have a lot of time on your hands, feel free to use a 30G.

If you think you have enough experience, just start breeding higher quality crystal reds.

I think ill just do the 30gal starting with A grade then after I have a colony Ill add SS grade then ecentually SSS. The spare low grades ill sell to lfs

What do you guys use to filter the aquariums of the cherry shrimp?

I personally find the sponge filters slow. I use a 50G AquaClear filter, 20G Sponge Filter, and a 10G TopFin filter. The TopFin and AquaClear have a sponge over the intake, small shrimp have a horrible tendency to get trapped inside the filter. I noticed that the shrimp like to graze on the sponges. I guess the suction of the filter draws food towards the sponge.
