Thanks for your help. But I think imma use the 30gal and a 10gal. Ill have time to sort them out in the 30gal. And when I get higher grade crystals then I can keep a big colony in the 30gal!
Good luck on that 30g I have a 12g Nano Cube and its hard enough trying to catch them, A 30g would be a nightmare especially with plants which they need.fishy12;3957322; said:Thanks for your help. Will I get in trouble with a little highjack here? I'm trying to breed shrimp as feeders for my F8 puffer. At the moment, I have ghost shrimp, but no babies. What shrimp are better breeders than ghosts?

I forgot to mention, you may want to use two 10G tanks. Use a huge net to scoop out a bunch of crystal reds, put them in one 10G, then it may be easier to sort them one. Use the other 10G as a "Everything else" tank.
You may also want to use the same water (water from the 10G) to do water changes. Like starting off by putting 5G of water from the 30G in each 10G and then put 1-2G of the 30G water in each 10G when doing water changes. So acclimation isn't so hard on the shrimp.

I get what you mean. Cldnt I just move the shrimp around during a wc? Like put them in the dump bucket then put them in the 10gal with the dump water?

I've actually never spoken to anyone who's been able to successfully breed ghost shrimp. I've heard they require brackish water from some and that they don't from others. I also know that the ones you usually buy at any LFS are caught from the wild.
If you want a prolific feeder shrimp, use red cherries. They may be more expensive but they are MUCH easier to breed.

I wouldn't do that, it puts a bit more stress on them.
Most of the time:
More stress = less mating
No Ill move the lower grades to the 10gal. It wont matter if they breed or not cause ill hand them to my lfs when the tank gets crowded. The higher grades will stay in the 30gal and have little stress during the water change hopefully
if your a beginner like me go with cherry shrimp they are much more durable than crystals. If you want to go with selective breeding with the crystals than start with the c grade which are the lowest and cheap grade. Id hate to loose a 8 dollar s shrimp on my first attempt to raise them. It also allows you to have a littler more fun starting from scratch rather than buying a good stuff.
