30gallon fish suggestions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ah whoops, I forgot to add that I'd like something that moves arounds to make the tank lively, which is the main reason I'm getting one anyway.

And aren't bichirs the stay still type?

if you wan't lively go school of tiger barbs with like a center driftwood thing, but you'd have to add them all at the same time, so make sure you got a very mature filter to match the amount of waste, just go to your LFS and ask to buy like a sponge filter that's filtering like an oscar tank or african cichlid tank.

Awesome tank you have there! But I think I'll go for variety. Like a raphael(usually at the bottom) and maybe oscars(middle)

you could keep raphael, but I dont think that oscar could go in there too, oscar would need at least 60 g for single fish alone.
here some treads I posted before and other people's thread,

you could find more on raphael catfish on the catfish forum, or just use the search bottom on the left window.
I used to think that raphael is boring to keep, but the way I set up their hiding place, and the number of them that I got makes it more interesting keeping them in my tank,
you could do something similar if you want to or maybe set up a better home for them, but the more they hide then the more you find them boring.
If you let them, they will hide all day long and you could never see them, they only active when the lights are out. So I would say its all depending on the tank set up and the number of them cause they also do well in groups.
They are easy fish to take care off, and they'll accept anything they could fit in their mouth. So if there are other tank mates small enough to be their meals then dont be surprise if those tankmates are gone one day.
There are other types of raphael catfish which is the spotted raphael but doesnt grow as big as the stripped raphael could get.
All Raphael catfish grow very slow, so be patient with them.

please don't get an Oscar.. please.. it will out grow that tank in no time..

u said u wont be getting a bigger tank, so it would be a big mistake to buy an Oscar.

  • can stay in the tank for like a few years?(I don't plan on getting a new tank even when I'm moving out)

Oh and a recent development, I have someone who's giving me a 1.5" irisdent shark(nooo way), obviously it can still fit in the tank(for awhile.) And I found out about a few interesting fishes: dwarf puffers and the dragon goby.

The goby has to be in slightly brackish water though, and the puffers are known to be quite aggressive toward other fish.

So... the irisdent shark is a the first official fish in the list. 2nd one... might think of goby or something. And as of this, yep, I may have to upgrade the tank in maybe a year and a half?
