350 gallon stocking

Good suggestions so far, i'm really torn between a pair of big cichlids or a bio-type. I can get 8 red heads for like $70 shipped from john (snook) here in florida. Dovii are not expensive at all and I've already talked to jeff at cichlidconnection for some of umbeeking's gorilla blue's. Just a matter of pulling the trigger.

I guess it boils down to what you want to look at. I'm no expert when it comes to big fish, but if you get a pair of something like dovii, would you not have to divide the male and female occasionally?

All boils down to personal taste. I personally don't want/like a tank with just a couple large fish. I like more bio-type styles. I have a 125 with 2 super red severums and 6 geo red head tapajos and will be adding 4 festivum and a school of 6-8 giant danios in the near future.

I like the geo bio-type idea you have. Add some top dwellers like angels for size and some tetras/barbs for dithers. Would look really nice.

Check out Lee Nuttals tank on youtube. Imagine one or two big fish instead....does not have the same appeal!

I totally understand it's a matter of person taste and after 30+ years of being in the hobby I've kept about everything out there at one time or another. I think that is part of the issue in that I got this large tank and now I have a hard time deciding on one fish or group to keep. I got rid of the community I just had because it just didn't "have my interest" anymore by watching them not really do much but sit there in the 350 tank. Maybe that is part of the issue in that they had so much room that they didn't have to chase, run, chase, run from others and they each had their own space and were happy.

I love the blues on the gorilla blue umbee's and I think that is what draws me to them, however like "ahud" said, having just a couple of fish in such a large tank just seems like a waste of such a large tank. I even thought about getting an MBU puffer with some other fish...however I want to make the right decision so that I actually keep them this time instead of swapping fish every few months because i'm bored with the current stock. That is why I was thinking a species tank to maybe see some breeding and natural habits from the fish.

Sorry about all the typing, but thinking out loud (or by typing lol) and really want to make the right decision this time. I think I need something that is bigger from the start or grows at a faster rate, because the severums were growing as fast a turtle moves in mud....

I see what your saying Paul. But in the stock options I suggested, you would surely get breeding and therefore some conflict to watch. Nothing beats watching biparental spawners protect their brood. I can see how a community of random fish would be boring. But a breeding community with 3-4 species has tons of interactions. Thorichthys and Geophagus for example are a blast just to watch interact with their own species.

So let's say I want:

7-10 geophagus red head or brasiliensis
1 - Adonis pleco (already in tank buy can remove if needed)
1 - pineapple Pleco

What are other suggestions?
