im blake his little brother. and filters have 3 stages, 1 they clean debris, 2 they have a biological filter, and 3 it revoves nitates and nitrites.
 
I will help you out a little, you are right there are 3 normally stages and they are Mechanical Biological and Chemical, but a lot of people dont run chemical.

What a filter does is catches the debris then converts the ammonia in the water to nitrites and then to nitrates and the chemicals mainly charcoal either removes medicine or polishes the water...
 
oh thanks. so is there any pumps that do that or no, will i just have 2 buy lots of pumps.
 
I'm sorry if it has already been said as I choose not to read ten pages of this dribble, but the tank looks like trash to me you can see its rusted out in the pictures
