375g in wall build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm interested to see how your planning the return plumbing, pump setup etc... Thanks for posting Clay.

wow I'm all about this thread I am trying to convince myself to tear down a wall and put a large tank in its place. mine would be seen on 3 sides so I feel like it is going to be fairly complicated.

I think your going to need bigger holes in that drip tray. You should test it out now in your back yard just to see if enough water passes through.

Keep in mind, that drip tray is for the 120g wet/dry, not the 375. I did the math and added a bunch anyway.

There are 120 3/16" holes. The math:

Hole.........Radius.......pi*r*r............# of holes per 1"
(1")..........(.5)..........(.7854)..........(1)
(1/2").......(.25).........(.1963)..........(4)
(3/16).......(.1875).....(.0277)..........(28.5)

There are 2 1" drains from the 120g, so per that chart, I need 57 holes to match the area of a 1" drain pipe. I have more than 2x the needed amount. I *think* it will be ok, but I'm definitely using this as my guinea pig proof of concept before implementation for the big tank. But I'll definitely test it once I'm sure the acrylic is set.

Subscribed. This looks like its going to be great.:woot:

As the hole starts getting smaller the water surface tension starts impacting flow especially under low pressure conditions. Anyway just a thought. If you do need to make the holes larger I would start by just doing every other one or even better just make the out side edge holes larger. If it's even needed?

Who really cares? LOL it's an awesome build and I'm looking forward to seeing your progress!
