3D printing your aquarium parts

I can see the use of such 3D Printers for parts on aquariums that may not be available any more, although unless you're lucky enough to know a 3D designer, you may not be able to re-produce the pieces you need...

But i definitely agree, when the prices for these systems come down, and the products that can be printed at home larger, we should see these getting used more and more...
 
It is getting close to the point that 3D printers are as affordable as regular printers.
Solidoodle is the lowest price that I have seen out there $499.00 for the 2nd Gen model.
The 3rd Gen model $799.00 has the largest print platform out there at 8"x8"x8".

Makerbot is about to release there 3D Scanner so you can scan the item to be reproduced and then print it.
No price yet for the scanner.
 
I wonder how well the scanner works, and if its only able to scan the shape of an object, or can it work out details like areas for holes etc..
