I think I will use the T grade if it's fine with Cory cats and geo's then. I hate how my pfs gets into my filters, hopefully t-grade wont.

Like I said in 2 of my other posts, if a cichlid is digging around and spitting out sand (are geo's much different with all there sifting around?), T-grade- or s-grade, they'll both be sucked up if the cichlid is spitting the sand out at the filter intake. I have a 3" afra in my 55gallon with t-grade who digs HUGE craters under the rocks.. and he takes it 1/4 of the way across the tank and just happens to spit it out right next to one of my filter intakes. When he angles just right, it will go straight in to that thing and it freaked me out. I put on a mesh liner around the intake shortly after that and have not worried about it since then.

IMHO, I have had success with the T-Grade and my Geo's, Loaches, Corys, who all dig like mad, spit all over, never had a problem, never lost a filter, with the S-grade, I was not as lucky. Lost a AC110. Now use the T grade only.

That is my experience, and I do think that you should wash down the Color Quartz heavily, if for anything, the slick that is caused, most likley will not be good for anything, I have not tested it, nor will I. I am just giving out my experiences with 3M color quartz and the 2 grades in question. Great Stuff. I just prefer the T.

Awesome stuff!

I found a local guy with some extra bags of black T grade.

How many 50# bags should I get ?

I need it for a 4'X18" tank and a 6'X18" tank, I dont need it too deep.
Will 100# do me or should I get 150pounds?

1lb per gallon basically gives you about 1" of substrate depth - roughly.

4x18 You'll want about a bag and half.. the 6x18 you'll bout 2 1/4 bags so 4 bags?

hmm ?

that seems like too much.
anyone else care to give an opinion?

I know I used one big bag of pool sand in my 75 gal, I assume it was 50# bag, and ended up taking a buch of it out. removed allmost half a 5 gal bucket worth.

Where can I order some colorquartz...I looked on the 3M site and theres no one close to me...and the few places I called want an arm and a leg for it and shipping. Like 150bucks just to ship 3 bags...

I wouldn't have told you if it weren't the same measurements I went by for my tanks. :) One 50lb bag of S or T grade in my 75gallon barely puts anything on the floor. If a fish swims by, he'll leave a bare bottom spot on the tank.

nevermind I guess I'll buy all 5 bags he has.

let us know how it goes.

If you can't find it locally and don't want to pay to have it shipped, then it's not accessible to ya. Sorry :(
