Was that the medium broadcast sand or the ultra reef sand?

URS is what has apparently been found in the rays. As far as which sand is coated, they are all coated.

Yeah I know they are all coated...I was just wondering...I love the URS I have...and I know that estes has told me that the URS and the MBS are different even tho they look identical. They told me the URS has some special coating to make it suitable for aquariums. I dont keep rays but I have a bunch of hap/peacocks/geos on this sand with no issues yet.

I think about any sand is safe for aquarium use, as long as the fish don't actually injest the sand.

That sound's fair. But is it fair to assume the way they eat ect they injest some?

YUP! I haven't had sand in my pond for like a year, yet I still find it in there. Assuming they are still crapping it out. I think it stays in there a long time.

Wow thats crazy! I've been fighting the idea of gravel or sand. (all my stuff is bare bottom 99%) I think i'll stay that way hearing this.

Wonder if live salt water sand would be any different than what you found about the 3M junk? (just thinking out loud)

100% natural sand or pool filter sand is what I'm looking into. You risk buffering the water and holding high PH if using anything from the ocean.

Hmmm... this really bothers me! I actually just managed to get my hands on some colorquartz (last bags of old stock, and torn!!!) and I was wondering if my mbuna and syno. petricola will have problems eating the stuff as they root around. It is a smaller grit than I had expected (s grade) and although some had likened it to poppy seed size, but this just looks like rounded sand and seems like it will definitely be eaten a lot. :(

Anyone heard of sick cichlids or catfish with this stuff???

You can check out my link for my 240...I have estaes sand but its the same size and shape of the S grade you got. I love the stuff...I see my africans rooting through it all the time and they have not had any issues...altho it has only been running for about 8 months now. I dont see where it will be an issue. But its not the 3m stuff either...I have seen lots doing good with the 3m stuff.

Hello I am new to the forum ... I just talked with a rep from Agsco and they still have 3m colorquartz
