It’s been a few years since I’ve had a tank now. Finished welding school 2 weeks ago now and it seems like here in Vancouver no one seems to be hiring because of the corona virus. Anyways petsmart had a sale on this tank so I decided to start back up and build something while I wait if anyone will respond to my many resumes sent.

todays task is getting the stand built. I’ve got the filtration coming in tomorrow morning, and sand and some neat driftwood on Saturday. This tank is gonna have some plants and will be dedicated to bucktooth tetras unless you guys have any suggestions on some other cool fish, but that's the route most likely I will take. Filtration is two sponge filters. Now I have been looking for an air pump that is the most silent as I can get as it will be in my room if anyone knows of a good brand or type that could support this tank it would be appreciated.

here’s a few photos I will follow up with updates when they happen

I recommend hygger air pumps. I have one of the 10 watt models and its quiet and powerful and not terribly pricy. It would create quite a bit of current in a 40 gallon. They do offer models in 3 and 5 watts as well though.

Stand is done just need to shim it a little bit better but that can wait for now. Will need to pick up some plywood and stain to completely finish it. Also last picture shows the gap I gotta fill, how would you guys go about it?

The gap between the tank and the floor created when leveling the tank with shimms?

Is this what your referring to? That size tank with 2x4’s I would not sweat it,

if you want asthetics, maybe some 1/4 round or some other base trim...

I’ve got gaps everywhere...

i just gotta get some better wood for the shims the ones that I made with some scrap to me seem a little bit soft, I will try to make some better ones out of some other wood.

just having a hard time with that left corner getting it just right so it can be nicely leveled

If the 4 corners are touching the floor flush you should be good.
just that corner is being held up by a small shim while I find some better wood, it is a pretty big gap that I will have to shim up, I would say I can fit my pinky in there

Have tried moving the stand , flipping the stand. Tbh I would redo that corner. I personally had to do that with a 180 stand I built.

I’ll see what I can do about it tomorrow, it would suck if I have to redo it, but might be the only way. The floor in my room is pretty weird so I guess a redo might be the only thing like you said
