40 gal set up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was in lfs the other day and heard the story about the tank going through the floor. First thing I did was post the question here ! Damn be honest im still worried about putting the big tank in the living room.

I can sure understand why it would make a guy nervous,,,I just think that with a little research and prep work it's probably safe as can be..(if you can get it up against a wall that helps support the house I am 99% sure you will be fine)
......another thing I just thought of ....put down a piece of strong plywood (bigger footprint than the tank)to disperse weight...throw down a nice area rug over the ply...the wife might even like the look

Looks like the 40 gal is not level. From back to front (width) is spot on but on the length (side to side) its a little off cant post pics. The bubble on the level is like a hair outside the line or touching it. Could it be the rug ?

my 30 is like that, but it doesn't hurt anything so I would t worry about it unless you are aiming for an extremely eye pleasing tank.

on a 40 that is well within the "ok range ".. if that leaks it's from a previous seal problem ...that's not out of level enough to even give it a 2nd thought ...although on my first tank or 3 it would make me think about it........ p.s. measure again after filling ....just to make sure it doesn't get WAY WORSE,,,

cool who needs the guys from that show tanked... I got my MFK crew ! seriously

ok half way filled and after measuring its still off but not change for the worse.. it's a little less and a quarter of an inch is that too much ?

Tanked doesn't know crap! I stopped watching a long time ago because they barely show any care for the fish and are making tanks for people that will probably wind up killing all the fish!

little less than a quarter inch off from one end to the other...big deal ?

your fine ..FILL 'ER UP:popcorn: 1/4 INCH on a 4 footer or even a 3 footer with only 40 gal. is nothing ...your only possible thing to look out for is seal failure over a short time (a couple weeks ,)but if it held water overnite you are about 98 % sure , at this point of having a good tank

guys gonna do fish in cycling ... don't want the ammonia in my sons room.. even though it will be diluted in the fish tank water im not comfortable with it. so I test the water every day once the ammonia rises to .25 or higher do a water change. What level of nitrites will constitute a water change ? and once all of that is done and the tank is cycled nitrates should be kept at 5ppm anything more constitutes water change right ?
