400 gallon CA tank update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
not to be a hater but sump is what all quality lfs use for theyre systems because of the amount of water they can pump. look how much you spent on media, and this is just the beginning. those filters (cannister) are kick ass no doubt but your moving alot of water, which turns over to media having to be bought. I know many stores which run 1 big pump, all tanks are sumped and in a room is the pump and a $#I* L0@# of bioballs etc. just somthing to think about, thats alot of media. cant wait to see your thang up and stocked though ;)

i hate sumps, i have one on my 3x2x2 and 2 cannisters would flog it. it keeps water clear, but there are small particles floating around the tank, with cannisters its crystal no particles and they are easier to move and arent permanent and they make less nosie.

no flaming just my 2c

I just never liked open systems and they way they filter. A closed filter system has less back up and can handle a lot more water force than a wet/dry. Yes wet/drys are the best biological filters but I spent the money on the Bio Media because ceramics are my thing. I feel they offer the greatest surface area out of any media and especially Aquaclear biomax and Efhisubstrat. I have 5 gallon pails of Bio balls as of now but rarely see the need to use them. I got half a bucket in a 2217 as a bio filter with ceramics and Balls but I see that they don't hold enough surface area. Just my opinion and I would rather spend my money on something that I prefer in the hobby because everyone has there own little techniques in this Hobby lol.

I agree bio-max in all my filters even the cheap walmart ones just get some onion netting place boi-max in there and slide into the back of the h.o.b's
