2, I stopped reading 3-4 pages in, the problem being people seem to think they don't have to do () first. That is irrelevant, when a number is attached to () it is one number ex. 2(3+4)+2 everything before that +2 is one number. You can not seperate those, that would be like taking the number 4 out of the equation 4*10, and splitting it into 1 and 3 and then continueing by multiplying the 3 with the 10 and adding the 1. Which is completly incorrect, the reason you have to complete the () first is because its not in a form in which you can complete the equation until you do.

Their teaching it in a very basic form to my son in Kindergarten and my nephew in 1st grade. My niece in 4th grade is doing the same principal in introductory Algebra that I learned in 8th grade.
My sons teacher is actually teaching the phrase, Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally as a way to remember this. And is asking students to write this on the top of the their Math H/W before doing the assignment.
