you quoted me before i saw what you meant, i misread it the first time

see my edited post, post #89
Noted the edited, and again in your edit to get it your way you have to add the second set of parenthesis.

multi and division take the same importance. which ever is on the left comes first. 1/2 or 1÷2 or one divided by two or .5 all all the same. As 48/2 or 48÷2 or forty eight divided by 2 or 24 are all the same. The sum in the parenthesis has to be multiplied by this value.

You have to go by left to right progression this is written out as, one divided by two multiplied by the sum of nine plus three or 1/2(9+3) or 1÷2(9+3) or 1/2x(9+3) or 1÷2x(9+3) all are the same.

To make say as you wish you only have to look back at your explanation hilited in red. You would need an additional set of parenthesis to denote that the sum of 9+3 was first multipled by 2 and then 48 would be divided by this sum.

but what i'm saying is, from what i learned, the ( ) makes it so that you have to see the equation as if there is an additional set of parenthesis there

that's where the debate is here

yup this goes to show we have to do the bracket first! cant take whats in the bracket and leave out what's outside that needs to be multiplied with to divide with the other number. and also in this case the elft to right theory works.

yea i never argued this, what i'm saying is that it depends what the equation is asking

is it asking "what is 1/2 or 0.5 or "half" multiplied by (9+3)??

or is it asking "what is 1 divided by 2(9+3) or 2(12) or 24?"

2(12) is also seen as 2x12... so 48/2(12) is also 48/2x12 which can also be seen as 48/12x2...

these are not the same you have to go left to right 48/2x12 is 24x12 while 48/12x2 is 4x2. Not the same.

no this was done with left to right progression with mult or divide come before add or subtract. The bracket only denoted multiplication as the was no equation to do within the bracket.

6x3/2 equals 9 bracket has no bearing.
