48" light over a 6' tank??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Look away from the standard aquarium lights - look to supply houses and even home depot. 4 foot light with 4 t5s? 6 foot light with 3 t8s? There are waayyyyy more options if you look around. You can customize what you want and make it work. I just got 8 four foot 3 bulb t-5 fixtures for my wife for free. If it's too much light for her needs I can rewire them and make them 2 bulb fixtures - nothing lost! Homemade hoods with homemade reflectors with a homemade hood to hide it work just fine for most applications. Make it work and own it - call it yours!

i had a 4' shop light from HD over my 6' long 135g. worked well. the fixture had 2x38 watt bulbs. its now over my 8' 360g tank, and i don't feel like i need more lighting...

I have a flourescent fixture that is used in commercial buildings with the lowered ceiling tiles that uses 4 bulbs that im going to put over my 225, but im not sure what bulbs will bring out cichild colors. Any ideas?

4' T12 setup on my 6' 125g light it quite well. 2 philips daylight T12's give out 10000k more than enough for my 125g. My fixture is mounted in the hood which isn't that high off the tank and the only dark spots are at the surface of the water on the edges. those could be easily eliminated if the lighting was elevated.

I can get a couple of 36" single bulb perfecto strips for free, but they don't have any bulbs. They look like they can accept T8/10 or 12 bulbs. What's the difference between the 3 T's? Any recommendations for a tank that has chiclids but not planted?
