4x2x2 big enogh for rays ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't see any reason why you couldn't raise a smaller species of ray in a 2.5 wide footprint, provided you can keep the water quality up.

I've seen much worse fish housing conditions.

You could keep retics, hystrix, and motoros in a 2' X 6'. Keep your filtration on the overkill side and get 2 rays max. You will need to run a sump because you will need all the extra water volume you can get. Start them off as pups and you can keep them for 5 plus years maybe longer. When the ray gets long enough that their nose and tail touch the front and back at the same time you better be ready to upgrade.

i use a 150 for grow out and its 24 wide ... but im going to build a 72"x36"30" to keep them in for life if i cannot get something bigger down the road .. but a 2 feet wide tank should work for about a year ... maybe more .. depending on growth rate

Scobina would definetly work for life, so would some of the smaller Marbles, as I believe there are some that top out about the same as Hystrix. Problem is there's no way to know if you have one unless you keep it for a few years.....

Definetly need a big sump. I'd do a sump the same size as the tank, that way the water stays stable, less water changes, over all easier to keep.

I agree to be honest. I mean you see a fair few marble males near fully mature at around 10-12" disc on the forums.

wouldnt a 10in ray only need a 24in wide tank ? i mean we put more active fish that are 12+ in a 24in tank so wouldnt a 4x2 be enogh?

doesnt make since to me

where would you find a ray that only grows up to 10"...
true, a retic only gets up to like 14-16"disc, but dont forget the 16-20" tail...

i thought male motoros only got 10-12in
