except silver aros come from calm waters and im pretty sure constant swimming will cause stress.

They come from the Amazon River, which flows very quickly at some points and slowly at others. I'm sure they can handle both. However, I don't see any reason to put a fish in a pond that's too small, and then add waterflow to give him something to swim against. By that time, you should just buy a bigger pond.

This is old but...I think the pool in your avatar would be great for the aro (either 10' or 12' diameter), but a 5' diameter pool/pond would be a little cramped. Theoretically it could work, I've seen them kept in much smaller tanks, but it wouldn't be ideal.
