I normally do not donate except for state funded health care etc. However I made two 5 dollar donations here as its a horrible tragedy :( Not much but hopefully it gets to them.

How reputable is this organization ?

in my opinion any charity that strictly asks for money only..is not reputable. but i dont wanna get into it.

in my opinion, there are so call charities out there that prey for events like this to happen so they can profit from it. whenever theres BIG money evolve most of the time if not ALL of the time there is curruption. to me its just suspicious when charity only ask for money. when really charity shouldnt just be about money. as long as you give something that helps. clothes/medicines etc.. not just money. so i think if you wanna donate do your homework and look for reliable charities. the red cross is a BIG company i personally would not donate to them i believe all the money they get i say about only 50% actually goes out and the rest they pocket and use it for other things. i have no real proof on this. but i would bet on my life that this is true. and if you think about it...its pretty common sense. but all this is my opinion of course.

The Red Cross is a business, but they don't show a "profit". If they showed a profit they would lose their non-profit/charity designation with the government. They have paid employees, and some rather VERY well paid employees (a friend of mines dad was the president of the Red Cross in the '70's). They have business related expenses too (payroll, building and office expenses, equipment purchases and maintenance etc.). 50% being used for charity work is a rather low figure in my estimation, but they certainly don't spend 80% on charity work either! It's probably some where in the middle. I've personally done work for them. They pay there outside vendors well and on time.

Alot of people "cared". The problem with Haiti is corruption. Most aid is stolen and sold long before it gets to the people who need it. A friend of mines church sponsors a missionary in Haiti. He said (prior to the earthquake) to not bother shipping anything there as it only gets stolen!
