that doesnt look like it will take too long. i think i will wait until i upgrade to the 75 for the africans.do not wish for my impatiennce to be a detriment to the fish.

To be honest I only suggested EBJD because you seemed to be leaning towards that direction. I personally wouldn't get a JD for a single cichlid since they're... well, not that interesting. Pretty, but not interesting. Imo. I'd much prefer something like a green texas or some sort of Thorichthys like an aureum, meeki or ellioti. I personally have a T. ellioti in a tank with just a convict partner, and seeing it do all sorts of stuff - sift through the gravel, swim up top to eat food, jump out of the water (or yeah I forgot to mention elliotis like to jump), all that stuff is more interesting than yeah... a JD. But that's just me.
That is indeed true. Of course each cichlid is individually different, and you could get a really cool JD but yeah... I'd much prefer to not stress out and go for something that's more or less guaranteed to be fun to raise. Only downside to a Thorichthys is that it grows a 'tad' bit too small for a 50g. XD
I like green terrors, very cool colors. Also if your not dead set of a solo fish maybe a breeding pair?

I am more partial to wet pets but some people like their fish to ignore them. Everyone has their own cup of tea so let us know what you like and we can help you out from there!

I would like a nice size cichlid for a fifty gallon,one with nice colors doesn't necesarry need to
be a wet pet. Maybe add another fish but not necessary. I usually like to research before committing to a choice.

though i do want one with a lot of attitude of a dovii or red devil but smaller and similar body shape as a dempsey or a dovii
