500 gallon stocking

A 500g? Cool, 8'x3' footprint? Now you need to decide if you want a mixed origin tank or one that everything comes from the same area. You can go as big as arowanas or stick with several very nice midsized (12-18") predators, Also do you like beefy fish or narrow bodied. If you answer these questions I will have a better idea of the kind of mix of fishes you might enjoy. In a mixed origin tank you might consider an arowana, a mottled eel (Anguilla marmotus), a lima catfish, a red snook (Petinia splendida), a pike cichlid of some kind, and 3 tinfoil barbs as dithers, or a golden perch (macquaria ambigua). Only the last would be hard to find.

When quoting tank size dimensions are best as some fish need greater depth and some can manage with lesser height.Overall size would give better sugestions for species.

I say stock it with 2,500 neon an 2,500 Lemon tetras.

then throw in 1 Black Aro.

500 g, SWEET. If it were me, I would go with a massive cichlid tank,or have 5 or 6 different species of tetras in large shoals. Your idea of large fish is good also,go with a few small mouth bass and maybe some crayfish.

:iagree:

and watch the fun begin!

Micro_red, serious problems with owning redline snakeheads this side of the border nowadays.

Here is an idea for a 500g, predatory and unusual enough to excite comment as adults, not a lot of fish but they will need the room and will be impressive.
1 Chitala ornata (Clown knifefish) up to 40",
1 Siniperca chaatsi ( Mandarinfish) up to 26"and beefy.
1 Tandanis tandanis (tandan eeltail cat) up to 36",
and 1 Liechardti arowana up to 36"
I think it would be a jaw dropping tank.
