50G planted tank setup journal

Just realized its been months since i updated this thread...

Since i tend to like letting the plants grow wild and deciding among themselves which should thrive and which should die out... The tank has changed a little, but not much...

Definitely a lot more filled out... This is after a heavy trim... The background could so with a scrub along with the glass pipes so sorry bout that...



More pics hopefully soon when i can feel like grabbing the DSLR

^ thanks and yeah its seriously filled in over time, infact i cant see the bottom of my tank anywhere except a small patch in the front...

The tank has really filled in nicely I need to trim my plants, but been lazy. I'm just going for that jungle look, lol! My 7g needs some rescaping, but I don't want to uproot everything.

^ yeah i know that feeling... Although i still have to trim it down more to shape the scape a little... Not 100% happy with the look atm...

Since i wasnt yet satisfied with the scape i decided to pull the scissors out and start pruning and shaping again...

What ya'll think? Looking better again or not?

I like the tank a lot FH, I just read through the whole thread and the trasnformation is really cool to see.

Just an idea if want to change the look without touching the inside.
instead the white BG, draw a BG that resembles your layout but the view is into the pond/lake from the lagoon/shallow water.

ie. your tank is a picture window into open water

it's not 3 d but it adds alot of depth to the presentation and takes up no space.

i originally wanted to create a backlit backdrop to give tank more depth, but my idea didnt quite work out and would have required me building a light box frame in order for it to work the way i wanted...

So now im thinking of looking into what type of red plants i can add in to the tank again to help break up some of the green

how about something as simple as a varigated dwarf lily. If you don't like the pads it would take maint but not that troublesome. The LFS has one in the middle of a grassy area and the contrasts are just fantastic.

Yeah, i got the backlit idea seeing another persons photo background of a blue sky, and wanted to add to it... When i originally tested the idea out it worked well against the white background,but with the water and over-head lights is washed all the blue out...

Then a friend of mine mentioned using a lightbox, but by that time i had everything setup, and no space in the back for a light box...

As for the lily idea, i might look into it, although i would be more worried about it blocking light from getting to my HC on the bottom...
