530g Tank Setup and Plumbing Help :)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
JK47 JK47 couple questions. How tight do you make your bulkheads? I’ve read hand right, and others recommend a wrench. Also, I know I should wait 24hrs to let pvc cement cure before turning on filters, but can I fill the tank and let the water sit? I want to make sure there are no leaks around the bulkheads.

Hand tight and a quarter turn is recommended. An 1:8th or very hand tight is usually fine. I hate tightening after the fact so try and get a quarter out of a wrench if possible. Overtightenibg can snap the plastic on the bulkhead flange.

I fire up plumbing after and hour or so. The most important part is ensuring that there are no pressure or sag points that a fitting takes a bunch of weight horizontally.

Making slow progress. Couple questions:
1) when using lockline do you cement it to the bulkhead? It feels too lose to leave alone.
2) thoughts on the dappening pads in the pic below? They’re thick but I needed to buy 3 of them

Here pics of the returns I have built and the pump. Busy aligning ultima and pump with intakes and returns before I cut more pvc.

Plus one pic of the ultima with unions. You’ll see the sight glass on the floor. Trying to place everything so I can makes sure I have room for plumbing to go through the wall do the laundry room that is behind the wall.

You have loose loc line? Mine is stiffer than me I can barely move it

I can maneuver it easily. My concern is when the lockline is connected to pvc that inserts into the bulkhead. I can pull it out very easily.

I was under the assumption they came threaded. Sounds like a fitment issue

Ok. Done the fitting for my 1/2in but run into the next predicament. First pic shows how I’m doing my stand pipe. Doing it like this so that I keep lots of space behind the sponge. Here are my predicaments:
1) how much space should I have from the top of the tank? I’ve planned for 1/2in. Was thinking maybe 3/4in or 1in.
2) the magnets on my powerheads are not strong enough for 3/4in acrylic. Either I need to find stronger magnets or move to pumps (inefficient) or jetlifters.

Does anyone know if I can just buy a super powerful magnet to use it with the powerheads I bought?

Do not cement loc line. Pads look great. Did you use thread sealant on the Reeflo? Looks awesome so far!!!
