going to have to evict a couple of fish from my tank, a giraffe and a pair of GT's
so i will have a 55gal with a full grown oscar, a senegal bichir, a common plec and a featherfin cat.
the plec may also have to go.

what would you guys suggest for a free swimming fish that wont get too big or make too much poop? and obviously will fit in with what i will have in the tank.
mid size shoalers are a consideration i suppose

i ghout about bala/silver shark but i hear about them sometimes getting rather a bit big! and a little unfiar to keep a single fish.

suggest away please! :) on a budget too!

You are already overstocked as it is. I HIGHLY recommend removing the Pleco if he's not too close to your heart and not adding any more fish.

I know you're probably going to get mad and tell me if i can't suggest something, dont post anything at all. But its just a recommendation.

Any mid level fish you get will probably end up being a schooling fish of some sort. And since the last thing you need is multiple new fish, you probably wont find a mid swimming fish that will stay small, not poop a lot and not do best in a group.

Sorry.

I agree, your overstocked already. I recommend you get rid of the oscar, I dont personally belive a 55 is enough room for them. If you dont want to get rid of the O, Get rid of everything else, especially the pleco, they are poo machine :).

Thats just my advice

1st get a bigger tank. A 55 is way too small even for a single adult oscar. I would suggest maybe 125 or better. Then you could potentially add a few mid-level swimmers and maybe another nice size cichlid (if the O will tolerate it). Just my .02.

indeed. the oscar is close to my heart i been trying to get hold of a cheap 125/150gallon for ages but funds are just too tight. he's happy enough though i think the other are going to go, after removing some of the gravel i noticed just how much plecs poop.. its foul :/
i thought as much just hoping beyond hope you'd give me the right answer!

Trust me,they did!!:naughty:

I personally think that an oscar can live in a 55 with a bicher and a featherfin cat. I wouldn't get any more fish though.. It also depends on the footprint of the tank, but just as long as there is enough space for the oscar to turn it should be okay, cos he occupies a different area of the tank to the other two tankmates. You would have to do at least one, possibly two big water changes per week and have minimal decorations in the tank..

Just another 2c..

That Oscar will make way more mess than the plec. A small Oscar can live in a 55 for a while, but eventually you need that bigger tank.
