55 gallon barrel moving bed filter building?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok thanks I thaught I purchased the wrong thing and you just cleared that up for me thanks millerkid519 I will take it back and buy the pvc stuff I need at double the price sucks but better to build it right then kill my fish right!!!!!

Question about pvc piping!! Does anyone know is cellular core abs is fish safe? Or do I need somethi nf that states water safe or potable water on the pipe? Just curious cause its about half the price but I don't want to kill my fish in a long term filtration system um building out of 55 gallon barrels? I just curious if anyone has experienced this or not ?

I connected mine using 3" pvc and uniseals. So far no leaks. If you connect 2 barrels at the bottom those two will keep the same water level, if you connect them at the top one fills before the other does. Working with the uniseals really sucked.

Yeah I'm actually going to silicone my pvc pipe to the barrels then use a rubber pipe clamp to join mine then if I need to I can separate them both and clean or do whatever I need to. Planning on the first 2 barrels being the filter and the 3rd being a just incase barrel for power outages to run an over flow barrel that has a drain in it if it ever over flows that much I'll be already ready to supply my plants with water lol. It is just a fail safe way to run my system I'll take pictures as I finish it up

I'm also thinking about running an ups on my systems air pump so if it goes out my fish will still get gas exchange as needed

Ups meaning uninterrupted power supply such as many large server rooms run with in power outages to allow computers servers to run critical Sutton sequence before powering down major systems. It's another fail safe plan I'll be introducing my system to over the next few months

Ok so I found some 2" pvc I'm going to use to connect mine together got an end cap for the k1 filter side and another for the side I'm making a wet dry filter on then the last pipe will be my security overflow for power outages. I hope the 2" pipe will be enough flow to handle everything between barrels

Just curious as how you will run the air for the fluidize bed, mainly the air stone line in the barrel, have you decided what you are using and how to mount it. Im running a 3 barrel with 3" pipe with uni seals. I have them all connected now im trying to figure out what to use to fluidize it. I bought a pondmaster AP60. I bought a couple 12" air stone walls but cant get them to mount in the barrel

Planning on running 2 air stones siliconed to the bottom opposite sides then having my drains both on the other 2 sides kinda in a square so to speak th e air stones will pump 2 sides while the drains will turn the rest of it making sure it all rotates evenly!! That's the plan on mine

I have a tetra apk100 pond air pump kit that I ordered should be enough to do what I need it to
