55 gallon hiding fish :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Salvini cichlids are notorious hiders. Because of their bright color and small size they have evolved to stay hidden as much as possible.

You should keep your light on a schedule. 12 hours on / off works pretty well. And what do you mean standard lighting? That's like saying I have a regular car. It can be a v4, v6, v8, it could be manual or automatic etc. What spectrum are your lights and how bright are they? Is it two two foot lights or one four foot? Details.

God I hate toyota lol.

That didn't really help but it isn't of great importance anyway. Leave your lights on for 12 hours a day and try not to have any room lights on when the tank lights are off.

Younglin or is it youngin....anyways....sounds like the terrible idea work.

The fish owner wants to be able to see his fish, watch them swim, watch them eat, etc.....

Not provide free room and board for nothing in return.

I do think the increased feeding will get your fish used to you....with a set routine probably the best idea. Try not to make sudden movements when near the tank, bang the glass tops when opening the top, or slam the stand doors. These loud noises and bangs will normally make your fish jitterish.

Cheers! :)

Cheers! :)

Removing hiding places from fish that are already scared is stupid.

I agree, it's their only somewhat comfort zone ... taking the hiding places away will cause so much more stress...

and just because we are capable of doing it, doesn't mean we should...:)

Jack Dempsey is a female, not sure about the salvini.

The fish are swimming around a ton now that there is no where for them to hide. Its no different than all of the people who don't have anything in there tank at all. Where do fish hide on bare bottom tanks?

There is no proof that the fish are scared.....it sounds like the fish just prefer to stay in the comfort zones provided. There isn't a predatory fish for them to fear, no agressive fish beating them down, no bright lights and loud noises.

Im my original post I said ...the fish would probably huddle up but it is worth a try. I did not say it was the end all of the fish hiding.

Anyways, the owner already stated removing the hiding spots was working.

Peace :D

Peace :D
