55 Gallon in need of stocking suggestions

a 55g is only 20 3/4" tall, really nothing special as far as taller tanks go. To ME, a "tall tank" is anything over 24". IF you wanna see a cool tank check out the 48"L X 18"W 110g X-high or the 48"L X 24" 150g X-tall. Now THAT is a tank for Angelfish lol

I had the 110, pita to clean 18w x 30h just sucks to reach in and clean.

I'll say this, I was excited when I first got it. That feeling lasted about a month. 1.5 years later if I hadn't got a decent trade amount for it I probably would have taken a sledgehammer to it.

John just offered to sell me his 300g.......but the dimensions are STUPID lol 96"L X 18"W X 40"H. Screw cleaning THAT.

Now that things are farther along, I'm considering an African themed tank. Below are some species I'm looking at. Note that only a few will actually be going into the final tank. I am aware that some of these probably are anything but compatible. These are just some ideas that a good combination could possibly be made from. Suggestions are always welcome.

Fish:
  • Pantodon buchholzi
  • Hemichromis lifalili
  • Synodontis nigriventris
  • Ctenopoma acutirostre
  • Xenomystus nigri
  • Gnathonemus petersii
  • Polycentropsis abbreviata
  • Phenacogrammus interruptus
Plants:
  • Bolbitis heudelotii
  • Various Anubias species
  • Aponogeton madagascariensis
