55 gallon NE MN tank

well. maybe I'll get one and if it outgrows the tank I'll just deal with it. It's true though. On our lake, the biggest one I've seen is just a couple inches. We always find them in submerged beer cans haha
 
well...maybe I'll get one (I'll admit, I think they look cool with their barbels) and if it outgrows the tank I'll just deal with it at that time. It's true though, the biggest bullhead I've ever seen has been just a couple inches long. We used to find them in submerged beer cans all the time.
 
Try to not get too attached when he outgrows your tank as you will find yourself wasting alot of money like the rest of us! XD

Sure he's not thinking of Madtom's? 3" is way to small. When I said they may get smaller I was thinking 10" or so, which I know is the average in MA.

I'm thinking they're madtoms too. I have a book on catching bait minnows and they use the submerged beer cans for catching madtoms.
 
hmmm...i just did a google image search for an idea of what madtoms look like, and to be honest they could be madtoms. the baby bullheads and madtoms look identical to me. i guess i could always just get one and see how big it grows to find out. are their requirements the same?
 
bull heads in Minnesota get no more than 10 to 12 inches.. thats on the big side. I catch them that size a lot at my cabin. I have kept them in a 55 gal. before and i would think a small one would be fine and handy to clean up the bottom of your tank.

madtoms are extremely rare in Minnesota.. im sure your finding young bullheads.. take a large bass hook with a sunfish carcass on it(after you fillet it for dinner) and throw it out as far as you can from shore at dusk.. you will see what a mature bull head looks like.. if your fishing in Minnesota anyway..lol you will catch one of 3 things. bull head,bowfin or turtle.
