55 gallon predator

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Some species of bichir will work. Look into upper-jaw species of polypterus. All but an ornate and maybe weeksi should do well in a 55g. Once you get into lower-jaw species (bichir bichir; bichir lapradei; endli endli, etc) all bets are off when they are adults.

Well I wouldn't recommend putting a bichir in with the grammodes. But, if you want to go another stocking option that would include bichirs you could do...

-African butterfly fish
-Senegal bichirs
-Then a school of congo tetras

Would be a cool african biotope.

payara baracudas. they can get big but grow extremley slow. you could keep em in there for years. they rarley live past 11 or 12 inches.

i havent kept bichirs would i just have 1 or could i have more and any tankmates
Tankmates would have to be non-aggressive.

I'd say, depending on the amount and personalities of the tankmates, you could get 2-3 of the following:

Polypterus senegalus

Polypterus delhezi

Polypterus Palmas ________(whatever species)

Polypterus mokelembembe*

Polypterus retropinnis*

* These may be difficult to get a hold of.
