you can keep 6 fms in a 55 no problem they only grow to 6 inches theyll be fine

Nope, and looking at your current tank setup list I'm not suprised you give such bad advice.

Pair of Firemouths + 1 other fish that can handle themselves in that sized tank, maybe a Salvini, Blue Acara, or Severum. Perhaps even a JD but that's getting a little on the larger side of what you'd want in there.

Multiple fish means you should forget about gt, jd, and probably sev; they just get too big. Pair of firemouth and one other tough fish as japes suggested. Salvini (female) could be a good choice unless you get a homicidal one. Good-sized convict might be a better way to go.

How about out of the 4 fms i get a pair and maybe 5 silver dollars for movement and maybe a catfish or am i just asking for trouble!!.. I HAVE FISH A.D.D

depense on what kinda catfish ofcourse,,u got small ones(small sturisoma's,,and really really big ones(phractocephalis hemioliopterus

the question firemout with gt(aequidens rivulatus)
i shouldnt try it if i was u

i think the rivulatus will kill your meeki's,,and if they dont kill them, then they stressing them up,,,,meeki's are really relaxed cichlids,,,,,en gt's tja the name says enough:D

silver dollars(metynnis hypsauchen) are nice fish and u need at least 5 of them to make a group

i got a couple young gt's by myself in a 70 gallon,,but they going out really soon(in my 300 gallon tank)

i've always liked the idea of a mini version of a huge tank i would like to have. with a 55, i'd paint the back and sides black, have some nice plants, a thin layer of plant substrate, some great ambient lighting, a ram pair, a small shool of corys or cl's. driftwood, rocks and so on.

i'd spend a lot of time and effort on the tank to make it a mini understocked masterpiece.

I think if aggression allows and you keep up, 6 FM's is very doable. I had a 55 gallon with 6 large male cons and it was fine. Those are similar sized fish. Myself, I would diversify. I would do on FM, one Con, and a JD or GT.

I really do like to have a variety con,fm i would like to keep a third type of the same size range as those two with a pictus type cat.I have seen huge jds and gts and even big male salvinis and severums so they are out.Im kicking around the idea of single species tank and pairs, but i really want a variety that makes the tank look alive and kicking.I also have unbelivable filteration on it 2 emperor 400s and 2 fluval 404s,but some of these will be going on another tank down the road.

Why not Rainbow Cichlids, Honduran Red Points, and Kehole Cichlids? Rarely any of those can get over 6".

Most dont like to take the time it takes to set up a very nice ram tank, and shouldn't even start one because of the maintenence and pertenious upkeep it requires, rams are not for beginners, but I think the suggestion is great and it would be very nice if most took the time to plan aquascape and keep up a tank with that kind of fish in it. I'm dreaming of the day I get my mini pro 3e eheim on a 46 gallon bow for a pair of rams, and a shoal of loaches, and cory's, and some nice tetra's...oh well we can all dream....:D

Silver dollars also get pretty big, and that takes away from your cichlid possibilities. If it were me, I'd get one firemouth, one rainbow, one hrp, some red swordtails, something small as a bottom sweeper, and call it a day.
