55 Gallon tank, Tiger Oscar or Texas Cichlid?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you could probably have bichirs in there will a solo fish but as soon as fish breed things change and some pairs decide nothing else will live in that tank and a bichir will not stand a chance if that happens. if you want the bichirs id stay away from getting a pair cause you will most likely end up with only the pair in the tank especially if you get a 75 which is bare min for a pair imo

my uncle has a cross bred african cichlid, the male is the only one left in the tank, because once the tank was filled with african cichlids and 2 plecos, the male and a female mated and they had fries, so the male killed every cichlid in the tank except the mom, he also ate the 2 plecos, later on the fries were part grown and the male suddenly killed all the fries and he killed the mom so he is alone forever

i know, i was stating how i know what and what not to feed cichlid, also, if i shouldn't have a pair of texas if i want the bichirs, what other top or middle swimmer would be compatible with him?

imo opinion nothing else in that tank if your gonna have a 75 with a texas with a couple bichirs. that will max out a 75.

it sounds like i should get a 75 gallon, a true male texas cichlid with lots of white spots, and 2 senegal bichirs. so i can't even put a silver dollar in with a texas cichlid?

a single silver dollar would be fine but the thing is they have to be kept in schools so as not to be constantly stressed and that tank wont be able to handle a group of them in addition to the texas and sens, but really senegals are so active they will create plenty of movement in the tank, you could probably even have 3 in there if you wanted

i know you want the tank to look active and full but when the texas hits about 8 inches its gonna start looking smaller and smaller and with every fish you add your increasing the waste. and adding 1 silver dollar seems pointless to me i think they do good in groups of like 6 and with bichirs no room for those. in the end you can do what you want but imo its all about a happy fish and you seem to want to croud all the fish you can fit in a smaller tank

I would say 1 or 2 because oscars are great fish, but 55 probably wont do it for an oscar... but thats your choice and your decision to make.
