Can a Texas Cichlid and a Convict live in a 55 for life together? What else could I add for clean up or dithers? I was hoping for some Tiger Barbs or something...
Can't say whether it will work because different fish have different personalities. It MAY work. It is worth a shot. Tiger Barbs would work with a Texas and Convict. I would try the Texas, Convict, 6 tiger barbs, and a bushy nose pleco. Don't be suprised if you have to remove one of the cichlids though.
a jag with tankmates in a 55 gallon would really only work if the jag was small and even then it would not last long. your best bet would be to keep the jag alone unless you can upgrade quickly. as for the tex and con i think it might work depending on size and individual personality (like Angler said) but there is a chance.
you can keep lots with a con, I've had a fire mouth, a JD, a GT, and a gold severum with a con in a 55 before(not all at once of course). I have a pair in with my oscars now but for fish like oscars a 55 is a little small, mine are in a 75 now moving to a 125 in about another week.
oh yeah sure there is plenty of cichlids you can put in with a con just aslong as there is room and seperate territories in which to claim. the only thing you have to remember is that cichlids are unpredictable, you could have a con get along with a jack dempsey one moment and kill it the next. that being said you could have anything that isn't too aggressive but can stick up for itself. i have had luck with jack dempseys, green terrors and even oscars. but i think you might be able to keep a texas with a con.
