Planning my filter for my 1800-2250gallon DIY aquarium. Thinking of using 55g plastic drums for my Filter/Sump. Going to use K1 Kaldnes in this set up. How should I set the drums up and how many will I need? Im thinking 3 drums but might need 4 just for safety because of the volume of the aquarium. The 1st drum with filter socks and maybe Pond Matrix. The 2nd drum with the K1 and the 3rd for the return pump.

200 liters of k1 per Kilogram of food daily is the recommendation for ponds and aquariums. I don't see feeding less than this to 140 lbs of fish, about 1.6% of fish's total mass. From what I've heard k1 is used at about 60% of total volume, 55 gallon drum*0.6=33 gallons=about 120 liters of k1 per barrel. Two barrels with 100 or 125 liters each would be a good setup if my math is right.

Yea. I was calculating 254 liters of bio media. You'd want 2 barrels with the media properly staged and aerated, so evenly split, 125 liters would be good. This assumes 2% feed to mass.
