5x2x2 -150g- fish stocking !!!!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You could fit 2 Severum in there with my list, just a heads up. I think you've got the room.

Personally, with a 5x2x2 I'd get 3 Severum, 1 BA, 1GT, and a say 4-5 Arachthys Heckelii or some other type of Geo around the 10" mark like Surinamensis. Or if you were to go for the central mix, you're pretty much on the ball with what I would get, except it would be 3 Firemouth and 2 Severum, and take the BA out. I'm a weird numbers guy.

btw where abouts in qld are you?
i'll probably go with
2 sev's
2-3 fm's
1 gt
1 jd
1 salvini or ba

I'm in Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast.

That mix is fine, you could probably cram in both a Salvini and a Blue Acara to the mix. Basically what people are getting at is that Salvini's are compact little ferocious bastards that will often go out of their way to cause havoc.

I'd introduce it as the last fish, and keep it a good inch smaller than the others. Size wise the BA is going to be around the same length but much bulkier, and the Firemouth will hopefully hang around together and ward it off.

Jack Dempsey, GT and the Severums are reasonably bigger fish and they won't take any crap from it. If you want to definitely avoid problems you'd stay away from Centrals (apart from Firemouth) as much as possible, but in a Cichlid only community you need a bit of spice.

Try and pick out 2 dominant Severums from different LFS's as skittish ones will grow slower and may get picked on as they're 'generally' peaceful fish. Personally I'd introduce your Severums, GT, and Firemouth first. These are your more docile fish that you need to be larger, and GT's are slow growers so give him a headstart. From there just go down the list to the Salvini.

I've found Severums are great police fish, as they'll break up fights. Get two dominant ones that are an inch bigger and they'll break up fights between the other species as well as keeping everyone inline with their own aggression.

Small World. Ultimately Brisbane at places like Pet City or Wetpetz, but up here my favourite two stores are The Fish Cave at Maroochydore along Aerodrome Road, and Pets and Ponds out at Forest Glen.

Only place I've seen with a Salvini though is a shop I wouldn't buy from at Mooloolaba, sells birds too on the corner.

pets and ponds are pretty expensive but have some good fish.

yeah the fish cave should have some.

maybe ill get my friend to get me some for wholesale prices if he can.

oh and do you know where i could et a baby bichir for under $50 ??

Na they're pretty normally priced I've found, and they definitely take great care of their tanks. I wouldn't rate Fish Cave as any cheaper.

No idea about the Bichirs, never seen one in an LFS and I'm not a fan.
