6 gallon betta comm: rescaped

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well the water has cleared now and the main thing is the glass cats have become more bold and I can finally see them. I decided to uproot that floating plant as the bettas love it that way. there are actually 4 bettas in there( 3 females and 1 male) and they get on pretty well, as they swim together with eachother, however one female jumped into the pump and heater compartment, however i rescued her quickly before she could have jumped further out of the tank. I find the major success with having bettas and fish is getting a fish that can hold its own, so that the betta focuses aggression on it, which is why I introduced the male sailfin balloon Molly( along with the fact that I had a female and I managed to time breeding so that the fry would emerge when I was on a two week holiday). I can say that I did think the red gravel looked better for colour contrast, but it was getting boring and I thought it was time for a change. I added 30% natural to the white gravel as well. There is just one neon tetra, I introduced a school but the school was diseased( should have known, dead fish in store tank) . and sadly the neons they sell now are tiny, and I am worried about predation from glass cats and the betta. More plants, along with some small driftwood, are to be added. Now for some pics!ImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1382946684.151761.jpgImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1382946654.906382.jpgImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1382946633.465746.jpgImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1382946596.353800.jpg

it's a work in progress, can't wait for plants to put on major growth and for the driftwood to arrive. I'm planning on attaching swords to the driftwood.

You won't have much luck, I don't think, with attaching swordplants to wood. They produce a lot of roots and obtain nutrients from the substrate not the water column. Anubias of some sort is the answer if you want to attach to the wood. That or java fern/moss.

ok thanks.

I feel you on that one, no reason not to make the tank as interesting to yourself as possible!

X2 on using Anubias to attach to your driftwood as mentioned above. It works great, looks good and is low light; not to mention you can find it at just about any lfs that sells plants.

Make sure to update as you add plants and driftwood! :)
