6 Silvers! Comments please

I'm saving up to buy 6 silver aro's and construct an aquarium to be place in an open area by our garden and keep them there til 3'-4' before transfering them to the pond.. Nid some comments and suggestions..


What size of tank should i construct (max Lenght of 6')?

The temperature of water for outside aquarium is between 25C-31C will that have any effect on the aro's?

Filtration?
Substrate?
Any other comments or suggestion???

keep in that aquarium til they are 3-4 feet? lol... so you basically mean keep in that aquarium until they are full size?

for 6 3 foot aros... the tank better be huge. and 6 feet in length wouldn't even be close

don't raise 6 aros unless u have like a 15ft diameter pond waiting. im raising 4 in a 8ft tank, and its gonna look small later, im gonna get rid of 1 eventually but the food bill is the most expensive part.

sze of tank should be a lot larger than a 6' footer. especially if your going to custom make it yourself. a 6' tank can be store bought. custom made tanks you would want to make it worth it and give enough swimming space for 6 large fish
filteration for a tank that large... probably a good pond filter
substrates... i would say is up to you. personal preference kind of subject. cant go wrong with bare, gravel, sand, or larger pebbles if you just wanted the tank for aros.

I say reconsider what you want because of what you can store. 6 isn't a tank that 6 full or half size silver want to be in. Why not keep 3? or 1 with other tank mate? You are trying to push 6 ( 3feet ) into 6' tank. That only twice there body length for swimming, but since silver are more top dweller than bottom and mid that make it no space for 6.

well if it can only be 6' long its gonna need to be 15' wide!

First of all. Welcome to MFK

Sounds interesting, how big is the pond you are going to transfer them into? How wide can you build your tank, if you could go 3 foot wide I would say at best you could raise 3 silvers to about the 24" length in there.

You could then tranfer them to the pond and raise another 3, depending on the size you start with It'll take upto 2 years for them to reach 24", but could happen in as quick as one year.

The temp of 77 to 87 degrees is probably OK but a little high on the upper end. Filtration is gonna take some research on your part. Subsrate not a big deal go with what works for ya.

One thing, silver aros are jumpers, so the design of both the tank and pond needs to be made with this consideration.

The pond's pretty big 20' x 8' (the pond used to be an old kiddie pool my bros out grew it).. I dont mind aro's jumping coz i got the whole pool screened.. nothing's in there yet.. i got 6mos to raise couple of aro's before i transfer them there.. tnx..

how would 6 aussie aro's do??
