Tetra Safe Start helps with cycling, you just have to throw in [some] fish after using it. Why not try that, and add the tiger barbs? Let it go for a week or two, check your levels, and you should be fine to add other fish. My 75 was ok after a week of using the cycler, and adding a couple african cichlids to help the cycler along (I used electric yellows so they could hang out with the CA/SAs afterwards, and they're getting along great). You can use smaller tiger barbs btw, as long as you're not starting with huge cichlids of doom.

ahahahhaha. Yes I love big cichlids of doom. That's a great idea, I think I might do something like that. I'm thinking 8 tigers. Good number?

no tiger barbs with a bichir. when you turn the light off at night if you notice the tiger barbs start to "sleep" which they will go vertical almost an stay there. any fish would take advantage of that fish just floating in the water an snatch them up easy. sounds like your tank idea's are to small for the one you got now.

hmm..yeah...hadn't thought of that. It's only a sen, but as he gets bigger the whole "barb munching" could become a problem. Australian rainbows or giant danios then? Some kind of schooling dithers would be nice.

Uh...sorry to bump..but I need to know if a school of Buenos Aires tetras can survive the wrath of a growing green terror and a senegal bichir. I'll pick some up today if that is the case.

The senegal bichir is going to be the issue.

I've kept and keep Bats with my GTs and have never lost one due to predation.
