Yea I'll definitely keep an eye out for the salvini. I have the second tank just in case. These 2.5 inch buenos aire tetras were a dollar each so no real loss. What do you recommend as dithers if not these?

I wouldn't add dithers.

Seems like a case by case scenario, guess I'll have to see how it works out ti know for sure.

Just curious, why do you recommend no dithers?

I'd say your convict and acara would be fine. Aquascaped correctly with sight breaks and bluffs takes care of those two.

Firemouth would probably get decimated, salvini would be a big gamble lol (one that I would probably take tbh, IF I knew I could re-home if problems arose).

More tetras too, possibly snails instead of the algae eater? Algae eaters tend to be useless as they grow older and stop eating algae most of the time depending on species

Dithers might have a hard time in only a 4ft tank.the cichids will grow quick and space will be limited.

If you absolutely WANT to get dithers do something extremely fast like giant danios and get at least 6 of whatever you decide on. I have 6 GDs in my 75 along with a striped raph ans sailfin pleco, I'm putting in a aggressive cichlid knowing that they may well be eaten. So what I am saying is if you get dither: get them cheap and don't mourn when one dies or you will be sad all the time.
